I recently asked this question and the responses I received were all very interesting ranging from taking food for lunches and snacks, water, filtered water from home in stainless steel bottles, herbal teas, coffee, purses and wallets, a change of clothes, natural handmade perfume, work bags, work files, driving glasses, reading glasses, laptops, iPads, phones, work related stuff and a clean slate in mind to start the day’s work! Most of us take our mind to work! Also, we cover our bodies in good quality clothing! On the other hand, if we don’t work in a physically demanding job, we act as if one was disconnected from the other! In all circumstances where: your mind is pacing back and forth from task to task; you think there is a lot at risk; you are second-guessing what may not eventuate and others; you are tense, fraught, anxious, vulnerable; you are manifesting your nervousness into body symptoms by way of an upset stomach, headache/migraine, sweaty palms and other symptoms! Calm your mind through calming your body, here are some tips that can help:
Disconnecting from the bombardment of thoughts is by now of benefit! Additionally, it helps to think clearly! Don’t forget to take your body to work!
If you're experiencing pain in your feet, your mobility drastically decreases!
The issue is, most people don’t think twice about what type of socks they run, play basketball, football, ski or use for any type of sport and general excercise! Tube socks or other types of regular socks are the default choice. However, those who skate, ski or run etc in regular socks frequently encounter some type of injury often related to ill-fitting footwear! Footwear that fits properly contributes to an optimization in foot mechanics, which in turn helps reduce the risk of injury by eliminating poor mechanics that are caused by socks and shoes that don’t fit right! You can decrease the probability of primary injuries such as shin splints, plantar fascitis, and even problems with the ankles, knees, and hips by using proper footwear! You can also eliminate the risk of injuries that come from extraneous movement and friction such as bursitis, impact injuries, and blisters! Not Too Big, Not Too Small is the key! Obviously, shoes that are too big or too small are going to cause issues! Too big allows for loss of traction and power and can lead to both foot and leg injuries! Shoes that are too small can lead to blisters and soreness! It’s imperative you get a shoe that fits the right way, allowing for movement, but not tight enough to pinch or restrict blood flow! When it comes to socks, the same rules apply! You want an athletic sock that fits you perfectly, molding to the contours of your foot without any excess folds! You also want the sock to be comfortable and not constricting! The benefit of a sock that fits well is that you can prevent a lot of injuries! Did you know Breathing - that involuntary and voluntary action we do daily for survival is in it's own right is considered a form of exercise?
Did you know that breathing can also alter your metabolism? The amount of oxygen we inhale affects the number of calories we use! If you breathe in and out through your nose you can increase your oxygen uptake and use more calories which can benefit with weight management! If you breathe in through your right nostril you are increasing glucose levels hence when you feel that drop in energy of an afternoon breathe through your right nostril and when you are stressed you want to be reducing those cortisol levels by reducing glucose levels through your left nostril! The alterations in nostril breathing is referred to a practice called "Pranayama" its a part of the ancient Indian science of Yoga, which takes us to another - Did you know breathing can also regulate body temperature? In particular it greatly benefits people with thyroid dysfunction and people with hormonal imbalances. When we breathe in through our right nostril for energy its referred to as Surya Anuloma Viloma Pranayama which means heat generating breathing so energy = heat (an easier way to remember) and our left nostril breathing is referred to as Chandra Anuloma Viloma Pranayama which means the opposite to right nostril breathing - heat dissipating or cooling; cooling = relaxing. Start to take care of your health through your breathing!! Here is a introductory youtube clip to give you a visual idea and to practice Pranayama. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvdiMjSgItg&nohtml5=False Recent research published in the renowned British Journal of Sports Medicine shows children as young as 7 years of age switch off from exercise!
