Anxiety is a disorder of continual worrying characterised by the inability to identify what is a problem-solving thought and what is a nagging thought! This inability leads to mind chatter, racy thoughts, poor sleep quality, high stress and heightened inflammatory responses which is all brought about by hyper-excitability in brain neurons! All this leads to a disconnection of the mind from the body!
In a prolonged state of anxiety it can lead to adrenal fatigue as the adrenal gland can only produce so much stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline! When this becomes too high fatigue becomes more leading to burn-out causing a depressed immune system, low resilience to infections, gastrointestinal upsets, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies and many other issues associated with chronic health conditions! It’s quite concerning how our emotional and mental health can negatively impact on our physical health! It does not have to if we acknowledge how we are feeling! Once we acknowledge how we feel we can then put into place things that we can do to improve how we are feeling! Here are some tips I have put together on things that I know through my own experience and professional expertise can help with improving how you feel which also helps to build resilience, boosts self confidence and prevents chronic disease! Eat a nutritious diet
Avoid inflammatory foods
Ensure you get adequate sleep
Exercise accordingly
Evaluate your exposure to light
Support your gut
Manage your stress
Prioritise your social life
Take time to play
Avoid toxins
Erectile dysfunction is distinguished by decreased nerve and endothelium function that impacts the balance between contraction and relaxation of smooth muscle of the blood vessels in the penis. In other words the inability to gain or sustain
an erection for intercourse. Common symptoms such as low libido, stress and fatigue are an indication other underlying causes are involved such as atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, low testosterone, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Any combination of the above underlying causative factors influences circulatory and structural alterations in penile tissue which leads to reduced arterial flow and dysfunctional smooth muscle relaxation, which is a precursor to a potential heart attack and affects vascular, neurological and hormonal functions. If your a male that has Erectile Dysfunction issues please consider speaking with a Naturopath and Nutritionist like myself as many things can be done to improve your manly health and well-being and prevent the potential of a heart attack. What is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is an oestrogen dominant condition where tissue of the endometrium gets displaced and grows outside of the uterine cavity such as on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel, bladder, ligaments and other areas within the abdominal region and chest wall. The displaced tissue acts the same way it does inside the uterus during menstrual cycles however it does not leave the body during menstruation as it is stuck which leads to inflammation, internal bleeding and stagnation. Symptoms such as heavy periods with clotting, pain, nausea, constipation, breast pain, infertility suggest other factors are implicated such as retrograde menstruation from using tampons, hormonal imbalances between oestrogen and progesterone, family history, excessive consumption of red meat, nutritional deficiencies, abnormal immune system function, benign uterine fibroids and exposure to hormonal disrupting toxins in the environment and in personal care products such as triclosan and plastics. These combined factors stimulate prostaglandin production leading to excess oestrogen production and encourage endometrial tissue to become displaced and attach to organs outside the uterine cavity. How can Naturopathic Medicine Help? Nautropathic medicine works in two ways to help treat Endometriosis that is through acute pain management and by hormonal balancing. Acute pain management aims to reduce pain, uterine cramping, bleeding and clotting. Hormonal balancing aims to reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, regulate immune system function, improve vitality and energy production, regulate hormones, reduce stress and support nervous system function, improve uterine health, support liver function to assist with clearing excess oestrogen and toxins, improve vitality of reproductive function and improve digestive motility. Do not fall into the trap of believing that who you are and what you are worth are dependent on who you are with or what you have! No one can ever give you your self-worth... but you decide if you let someone rob you of it! Become aware of how you medicate the pain in your life! It may include food, shopping, alcohol, drugs, or relationships which continue to diminish your sense of self! You will never truly feel good until you learn to love yourself unconditionally! Your life is a gift! Say to yourself constantly..."I deserve the best that life has to offer." Live from this place! Make it a point to build new relationships that are positive, encouraging and supportive! Take it upon yourself to develop a sense of purpose, optimism and discipline! Realize that no one can take away your most valuable assets - your mind and your self-esteem... without your permission! You Deserve! If you're experiencing pain in your feet, your mobility drastically decreases!
The issue is, most people don’t think twice about what type of socks they run, play basketball, football, ski or use for any type of sport and general excercise! Tube socks or other types of regular socks are the default choice. However, those who skate, ski or run etc in regular socks frequently encounter some type of injury often related to ill-fitting footwear! Footwear that fits properly contributes to an optimization in foot mechanics, which in turn helps reduce the risk of injury by eliminating poor mechanics that are caused by socks and shoes that don’t fit right! You can decrease the probability of primary injuries such as shin splints, plantar fascitis, and even problems with the ankles, knees, and hips by using proper footwear! You can also eliminate the risk of injuries that come from extraneous movement and friction such as bursitis, impact injuries, and blisters! Not Too Big, Not Too Small is the key! Obviously, shoes that are too big or too small are going to cause issues! Too big allows for loss of traction and power and can lead to both foot and leg injuries! Shoes that are too small can lead to blisters and soreness! It’s imperative you get a shoe that fits the right way, allowing for movement, but not tight enough to pinch or restrict blood flow! When it comes to socks, the same rules apply! You want an athletic sock that fits you perfectly, molding to the contours of your foot without any excess folds! You also want the sock to be comfortable and not constricting! The benefit of a sock that fits well is that you can prevent a lot of injuries! Did you know Breathing - that involuntary and voluntary action we do daily for survival is in it's own right is considered a form of exercise?
Did you know that breathing can also alter your metabolism? The amount of oxygen we inhale affects the number of calories we use! If you breathe in and out through your nose you can increase your oxygen uptake and use more calories which can benefit with weight management! If you breathe in through your right nostril you are increasing glucose levels hence when you feel that drop in energy of an afternoon breathe through your right nostril and when you are stressed you want to be reducing those cortisol levels by reducing glucose levels through your left nostril! The alterations in nostril breathing is referred to a practice called "Pranayama" its a part of the ancient Indian science of Yoga, which takes us to another - Did you know breathing can also regulate body temperature? In particular it greatly benefits people with thyroid dysfunction and people with hormonal imbalances. When we breathe in through our right nostril for energy its referred to as Surya Anuloma Viloma Pranayama which means heat generating breathing so energy = heat (an easier way to remember) and our left nostril breathing is referred to as Chandra Anuloma Viloma Pranayama which means the opposite to right nostril breathing - heat dissipating or cooling; cooling = relaxing. Start to take care of your health through your breathing!! Here is a introductory youtube clip to give you a visual idea and to practice Pranayama. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvdiMjSgItg&nohtml5=False Having colds and flu's can be taxing on both the mind and body!!
Having a strong immune system combined with good digestion and lymphatic flow are three of the many keys to achieving optimal health and preventing cold's and flu's. Antibiotics, Cold and Flu tablets, Cough syrups and Flu vaccinations don't really protect or enhance the immune system or reduce symptoms of a cold or a flu they actually prolong them and mutate natural immunity not to mention they also disrupt the gut flora which in effect is where most of the immune system resides. A way to improve natural immunity is through mind body rhythmic movement! Qigong and Tai Chi involve gentle mind body rhythmic movements that reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, enhance the immune system, improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions which all serve great importance and benefit in the prevention of colds and flu's along with achieving optimal health. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKeZFODGK0Q |
